If SURVIVAL Art Review, which this year is taking place in a park, is an undertaking aimed at maximizing confrontation with the audience and an example of transcending culturally-defined barriers by artists, then its Music Stage should incorporate similar principles. This is precisely what the curators of SURVIVAL’s Music Stage – Olimpia Świst and Marek Gluziński from the PUZZLE Music Club – promised when they invited special artists for this occasion. When choosing the artists, they were inspired by the idea of exploring music areas at the edge of conservative composing and avant-garde experimenting. They were also interested in confronting mass music with artistic experiment.
Each night will be a presentation of two different outlooks on transcending music boarders. The first event is a meeting of contemporary classical composition with an electronic-electroacoustic experiment. It will be a chance to see how academically-educated composers and instrumentalists overcome stereotypes when they give up conventional music-making. Placing sound in an urban and social context is also important in their performances.
This ‘trend’ of SURVIVAL’s Music Stage will include concerts of Ignaz Schick, Kasper Toeplitz, Eryck Abecassis and Gerard Lebik – artists who despite their classical music education and development consciously break conventions, give up the rigid limitations of their music genres and reach extreme areas of generating and manipulating sound, such as noise, fields recording, experimental electronic, urban sound interferences.
The second event each night will be a confrontation of light pop music with experimental and avant-garde music. It will be a surprising encounter of avant-garde artists who flirt with pop music in their performances. The bands: Niwea, Tryp, and musicians: Przemysław Etamski and Paul White have been operating successfully in this niche while retaining their individual characters. Their flirt with pop music stems from sounds, chords and samples. They use them consciously and intentionally to create constructions which are more than all these elements.
The perception of sound in any organism is limited to a certain range of frequencies. For humans, hearing is normally limited to frequencies between about 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz (20 kHz)[3], although these limits are not definite. The upper limit generally decreases with age. Other species have a different range of hearing. For example, dogs can perceive vibrations higher than 20 kHz, but are deaf to anything below 40 Hz. As a signal perceived by one of the major senses, sound is used by many species for detecting danger, navigation, predation, and communication. Earth's atmosphere, water, and virtually any physical phenomenon, such as fire, rain, wind, surf, or earthquake, produces (and is characterized by) its unique sounds. Many species, such as frogs, birds, marine and terrestrial mammals, have also developed special organs to produce sound. In some species, these produce song and speech. Furthermore, humans have developed culture and technology (such as music, telephone and radio) that allows them to generate, record, transmit, and broadcast sound. The scientific study of human sound perception is known as psychoacoustics.

ERYCK ABECASSIS Composer, musician, electric guitar player who undertakes his work in several fields from orchestral to chamber music, electronic, theater, street theater , movies,
he has obtained commands from Radio-France, Gmem, Ina-Grm, Grame,French governement. His music has been played in International music festivals of "Présences", "Les musiques-Marseille", "Musiques en scènes-Lyon ","Amplitude- festival Denmark","Computer art festival -Padova " and some others.
As an electronic musician he travels in many countries like Spain, Brasil,Germany, Austria, England, Sweden, South Korea, Italy... Digging his style now at the edges of contemporary and electronic "noise music",with a large use of the computer, both in writing process and like a musical instrument.
For some time, his interest grow for the outside, like streets, public areas, unconventional spaces but also lands.
Eryck Abecassis est né à Alger. Il s'installe à Paris en 1979 comme photographe, puis mène des études de cinéma . En 1981 il se tourne définitivement vers la musique.
Après des études d'écritures d'harmonie et de contrepoint, Il s'intéresse aux ateliers de recherches instrumentales de l'IRCAM (il y suivra plus tard le cursus d'informatique musicale).
Ses nombreuses collaborations qui le mènent de la scène au cinéma, en passant par le théâtre de rue, ont pour conséquences le développement d'un style en marge des courants traditionnels et d'une certaine forme "contemporaine" établie - un regard nourrie d'autres pratiques, écoutes, habitudes de représentations et le refus d'un certain académisme moderne. Sa recherche, depuis deux années se nourrie d'un interêt croissant pour la "noise music", tant au niveau compositionnel, que instrumental (hybridation d'instruments et synthèse sonore).
Son travail s'oriente aussi vers les espaces publics, avec le souci constant du renouvellement des habitudes d'écoutes et des formes de repésentations. Ce travail peut prendre divers formes, parcours, performances, installation, opéra, et a pour visée la transformation du spectateur en un véritable habitant musical de l'oeuvre.
Il a composé de nombreuses musiques de films, dont "Hava Ane Dey" de Partho Sen Gupta (sélection Berlin 2004, Best Film award à Durban et Manchester)
Sa carrière de musicien electronique soliste l'emmène aussi dans de nombreux pays dont la Corée du sud, le Brésil, l'Autriche, l' Allemagne, l'Italie, l'Espagne ainsi que la Pologne et les Pays Bas.
Il est actuellement membre des groupes Kernel (laptop trio) et PiR (percussion / computer).
Eryck Abecassis a également obtenu des commandes de Radio-France, du Gmem, de Grame, de l'Ina-Grm, de l'État, de l'EMS Stockholm...
Ses pièces ont été jouées par des ensembles comme Accroche-note, 2e2m, le trio Aller-Retour, Insieme, L'Octuor de violoncelle, le trio Èquinoxe, l'ensemble Fa, L'EOC, le Quatuor Diotima, Kernel, Ars Nova...
